The Town’s Voice | Creative Consultation Installation
This piece was created using responses from Skipton’s High
Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Program “Have Your Say” Consultation in
December 2020. The consultation helped to find out what aspects of culture the
people of Skipton most liked and wanted more of. It attracted almost 500 unique
responses which we divided into these common themes: Community (Pink),
Creativity (Yellow), Culture & Activities (Blue), Diversity (Orange) and
Opportunities (Green). Each shape you see here represents 1 of the 5
categories, made up entirely out of the voice recordings of local volunteers
who recorded themselves reading a selection of the consultation responses. The
volunteers were split into 5 groups, 1 for each and were provided with a
selection of survey responses. The recordings were then edited in order to
extract the audio waves you see here, thus creating “The Town’s Voice.”
